About the Role

This is a critical and dynamic opportunity to lead the development of Trading Standards policies and initiatives across Wales, ensuring these policies effectively address emerging consumer protection and public health needs. The role is central to driving the strategic direction of Trading Standards services, advocating for robust policy positions, and influencing national and local agendas.

The successful candidate will be responsible for formulating new policies, leading consultation responses, and ensuring that local authorities' perspectives are well-represented in the broader policy landscape. As a key player in the Trading Standards Wales group (TSW), you will represent Senior Trading Standards Managers from each constituent local authority, guiding the development of best practices in public health and wellbeing within local communities.

This is a full-time, permanent national role that requires significant travel across Wales to engage and collaborate with a broad spectrum of stakeholders. These include Directors of Public Protection Wales, Welsh Government, WLGA, Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI), CIEH, OPSS, Food Standards Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Health & Safety Executive, Public Health Wales, Environmental Health Wales, and consumer groups. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping the policy framework that underpins the work of these entities.

In addition to policy development, the post holder will coordinate and lead the implementation of the Annual Action Plan / Work Plan for TSW, oversee strategic analysis, and facilitate training and leadership development for practitioners in partnership with key organizations.
