The Equality Improvement Framework for Wales is:
- a management framework for equality and a self-assessment tool
- a way of securing positive outcomes which promote equal opportunity within local authority services
- designed to ‘talk’ to local authority approaches to the Wales Programme for Improvement (WPI)
- a framework which works with and encourages the enhancement and development of existing systems for management to support effective equalities management and continuous improvement
The Equality Improvement Framework for Wales was updated in 2011 to reflect the requirements of the Equality Act 2010, the specific public sector equality duties in Wales and the Local Government Measure (Wales) 2009, but also to ensure an 'outcome focused' practical approach, thereby assisting local authorities to deliver improved outcomes to people’s lives.
The update was undertaken in conjunction with the Equality and Human Rights Commission in Wales, the Welsh Government, Wales' Fire and Rescue Authorities and equality practitioners from across Welsh local government.
