Freeports Announcement (23.3.23)

Tuesday, 28 March 2023

Cllr Andrew Morgan, Leader of the WLGA said: “This is good news for Wales. I would like to congratulate the three councils and their partners on securing freeport status. The proposals for Anglesey and for Neath Port Talbot and Pembrokeshire are exciting and have great potential to generate new, green jobs and investment”.

Councillor Rob Stewart, WLGA Deputy Leader and Economy Spokesperson said:  “This is a really good example of multi-level governmental co-operation, between UK Government, Welsh Government and local government, working with local partners. WLGA wishes the two freeports every success and we will be keen to learn lessons. Whilst Newport and its partners will be disappointed not to have been successful with their bid, let’s hope there will be opportunities to extend the freeport initiative in the future, in light of experience”.
