A Self Evaluation Framework for Scrutiny in Wales

Overview and Scrutiny is an essential element of the governance of a council. Successful scrutiny ensures that the best decisions are made in the best way for local people. Councils will wish to assure themselves that their scrutiny function is effective and that their resources are directed to where they can make the most difference.

Councils in Wales have worked with the WLGA to develop a shared framework to assist in the self-assessment of the local scrutiny function, click here for more details

Purpose of the framework

The framework is intended to:

  • help councils evaluate the effectiveness of their scrutiny function
  • support the continuous improvement of scrutiny
  • encourage shared learning and good practice
