UK Covid-19 Inquiry: WLGA responds to Module 1 findings

Thursday, 18 July 2024

Responding to today’s publication of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry Module 1 report, Leader of the WLGA, Councillor Andrew Morgan, said:

“On behalf of Welsh local government, we thank Baroness Hallett for her work to reflect on our experiences in responding to the pandemic. At the heart of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry are the bereaved families and survivors. Today’s report is a significant contribution to help us learn from that experience and to ensure the UK is better prepared for the future.

“Through representation by the Welsh Local Government Association, councils’ experiences before and during the pandemic have been considered by the inquiry and have led to the recommendations made.

“Local government in Wales has always worked with partners to support and protect local communities. We welcome that the Inquiry has identified the need for an effective multi agency approach to planning for any future pandemic. Councils have much to contribute to civil emergency preparedness and resilience and will continue to play their part to help implement the recommendations.

“We will carefully consider the recommendations outlined in the report, and approaches to preparedness and planning for the future.”
