Thursday, 22 August 2019

WLGA Leader Councillor Debbie Wilcox has today congratulated learners on their GCSE results.

Overall GCSE performance in Wales has improved on 2018 by 1.2 percentage points, with 62.8% of candidates achieving a C grade or above. The A*- A pass rate has remained stable at 18.4%.

This year has seen the completion of the long-term overhaul of the GCSE system, with the last seven of reformed GCSE subjects being awarded including Welsh Second Language, Business and History.

Councillor Debbie Wilcox (Newport), WLGA Spokesperson for Education said:

“As a former teacher myself, I know all too well how nerve-wracking results day can be for all concerned. I would like to congratulate all learners on their achievements, and on all their hard work which has led to today. Families, teachers and school staff, who have all supported learners over a period than can be a particularly stressful for them, will also today take pride and delight in their success and I would like to thank them for their integral role.”
