Established in 2010, the Waste Benchmarking Project examines the financial and performance data provided by local authorities in greater details. The aim is to identify good practice and facilitate service improvement.
Waste Services Financial Benchmarking Hub
Welcome to the Wales Improvement Programme’s live online Waste Services Financial Benchmarking Hub, which has been developed in conjunction with the Local Government Data Unit (LGDU) and provides a detailed repository of financial data relating to waste from Wales’ 22 local authorities. This data covers five areas for the period 2011 – 2016, which are:
- Food Waste Services
- Residual Waste Services
- Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC)
- Trade Waste Services
- Dry Recycling Services
- November 2017 - Data relating to Trade Waste Services for the periods 2014-15 and 2015-16 is now live
The Hub was created following a recommendation made after a review conducted by Ricardo AEA into the benchmarking Wales work. Its objective is to improve the data dissemination of the benchmarking work. By collating the data also in one place the Hub allows for waste officers within local authorities the opportunity to interrogate and access the data as and when they wish.
In order to use the Hub an online password protected account will first need to be created. Please visit the Local Government Data Unit’s website here open link to register. When registering, please specify that it’s the waste data which you are interested in when prompted by the question “Why do you need access to the Benchmarking Hub?”
Once you have registered and visited the Benchmarking Hub we would welcome any feedback you might have. Please submit your comments via the email address below.
In 2017, the Waste Improvement Programme’s Waste Benchmarking Hub was entered into and shortlisted for the Best New Idea Category at the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) AWARDS. Read more here open link
